What It Means for Our Members, Customers: Blue Cross Again Awarded by J.D. Power for Member Satisfaction

For the third time in four years, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has been ranked No. 1 in Member Satisfaction among Commercial Health Plans in Michigan according to J.D. Power. The award is given to the highest-ranking health plan in the region in the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Commercial Member Health Plan Study. What does it mean for our customers and members?
A J.D. Power award demonstrates satisfaction among Blue Cross’ products and offerings backed by independent, credible research. Using verified customer feedback, the J.D. Power award reflects exceptional performance against other health plans in Michigan in key areas like satisfaction, trust and product and coverage offerings. J.D. Power is a global leader in consumer insights provided through large surveys.
In the J.D. Power study, Blue Cross ranked number one in Michigan in seven of eight dimensions:
- Product/coverage offerings
- Ability to get health services how and when customers want.
- Digital channels
- People
- Helping save time or money
- Trust
- Ease of business
We make it easy for our members to find care, no matter where they live with the largest PPO and HMO networks in Michigan, alongside pharmacy, dental, vision and complementary solutions to provide the most accessible health services of any insurer in the state.
For the past several years, we have created initiatives and taken the following steps to ensure satisfying customer experience for our members:
- Ensuring affordable, accessible health care is our mission. Blue Cross is a responsible steward of every health care dollar we receive to pay for our members’ health and we continue to work toward system-wide solutions to reduce the cost of health care and health insurance premiums. We use nine cents of every dollar on administration, and we are committed to lowering our administrative costs by $600 million over three years.
- Prescription drug discounts at the pharmacy counter through the Blue Care Network’s Price Edge service, saving members more than $41.6 million in 2024.
- Lower-cost drug alternatives through CivicaScript®, a nonprofit initiative aimed at developing and manufacturing lower-cost generic prescription drugs to compete with expensive, monopolized drug companies.
- An improved digital experience with bcbsm.com and an app and member account that allows members to access all of their benefits in one account.
- Personalized member engagement, including an improved onboarding experience to help members understand their benefits.
- More virtual care options for members to provide access to board-certified doctors, nurse practitioners for physical and mental health and dentists for oral health needs.
- Reduction of prior authorizations and a new prior authorization tracking solution for members, allowing members to understand the status of authorizations for their care through the member account and push notifications.
- More access to behavioral health care through our Collaborative Care Program, available in more than 240 Patient-Centered Medical Home primary care practices to improve quality and access to life-changing care, while preventing more than $6.3 billion in unnecessary medical experiences
- One-on-one cancer support through OncoHealth’s virtual platform, Iris, offering comprehensive guidance and one-on-one support to members facing a life-changing diagnosis.
- An expanded behavioral health network with AbleTo, adding more than 2,000 additional behavioral health providers to offer services to members virtually.
- Additional care management and advocacy services through Blue Cross Coordinated Care.
- Comprehensive Family Building and Women’s Health solutions through a partnership with Maven Clinic to provide high quality virtual health care for women, including pre-conception, maternity, return to work, parenting and menopause.
