At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, we talk often to our members about their healthcare — understanding it, navigating it and using it. But many of the choices that shape our health happen long before we walk into a doctor's office or pick up a prescription.
We're making these choices every day at the grocery store, the dinner table and all the meals in between.
Chronic diseases linked to diet and lifestyle affect 1 in 2 adults, with a $1 trillion cost to the U.S. economy in combined healthcare spending and lost productivity from poor diet, yet nutrition remains one of the most overlooked ways we influence our own health. Better health starts with everyday choices, and nutrition is one of the most powerful places to begin.
At the same time, we know eating healthy isn't always simple. Research shows that 7 in 10 Americans want to eat healthier but don't know where to start. Busy schedules, rising grocery costs, conflicting nutrition advice and other everyday challenges can make healthy eating feel overwhelming or difficult to prioritize.
That's why we're pleased to introduce Power Your Health, our new initiative focused on making nutrition easier to understand and to put into practice.
At the center of the initiative is a new hub on MIBlueDaily.com that brings together practical nutrition resources and stories from across Michigan, designed to answer everyday questions and help make healthy eating easier to navigate. You’ll find recipes, expert advice, practical nutrition tips and real-life inspiration that can help turn healthy intentions into everyday habits. Whether you're looking for a new recipe, advice from an expert or simply a place to start, we hope this resource will be useful.
As a trusted health partner, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is committed to helping people turn information into action. Through Power Your Health, we're connecting Michiganians with credible guidance, practical tools and community-based resources that make healthier choices feel more achievable in everyday life.
That's why I'm so excited about this initiative. Unlike many factors that influence health, nutrition is something we engage with every day and a tangible way we can make a positive impact on our own lives.
We've also been talking often about the affordability crisis facing the healthcare industry, and we know helping people stay healthier is part of making healthcare more affordable.
Power Your Health supports Blue Cross's affordability message by giving people practical ways to support their health today and reduce the risk of more serious or costly health issues over time.
And the impact extends beyond any one individual. Healthier choices can strengthen families, workplaces and communities across Michigan, creating a ripple effect that benefits us all.
That's why I believe nutrition deserves a bigger seat at the table when it comes to the broader healthcare conversation.
Better health doesn't have to start with a major life change. Sometimes small steps, like eating more fruits and vegetables, can make a big difference. Through Power Your Health, we're committed to helping Michiganians take those steps with confidence, one decision and one bite at a time.
