“Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan supports Governor Whitmer’s extension of the Stay Home, Stay Safe, Save Lives order through the end of April,” said President and CEO Daniel J. Loepp. “We are at a critical point for the health and safety of Michiganders and must continue the precautions to slow the spread of the disease. We are proud to support the health care system through the essential tasks of daily processing $72 million in claims and answering member and customer concerns to support services for our members’ care and benefits, ensuring that needed money flows into hospitals, physician offices, health clinics, pharmacies and other points of care.”
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network recently announced programs we’ve put in place to help support displaced workers and small employers during these difficult times. Our services for displaced workers enable qualified individuals to continue their individual health coverage or transition from group coverage to an individual plan, potentially qualifying for federal subsidies to lower their premiums.
We’re also offering guidance to Michigan small businesses who are having trouble maintaining their coverage or seeking assistance for workers. Blue Cross began a special support program for small businesses who may be forced by economic conditions to drop their health insurance coverage or lay off employees. The program is available to small employers and their insurance agents through a toll-free hotline at 866-582-5052 and via email at smallgroupCOVID19@bcbsm.com.
Blue Cross is here to advise and guide individuals and families to enroll in health coverage, if they need to transition out of their employer’s plan and into one of their own. We’re encouraging people with an individual plan who may be having trouble making payments, or people who have lost their health insurance and their job in this crisis to contact Blue Cross or their local agent to explore options for continued coverage.
