Bue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is thrilled to announce the winner of our Small Business Appreciation Month contest: Arbor Assays of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our runners-up are The Salvati Insurance Group and Hillsdale County Senior Services Center. These exceptional small businesses have knocked it out of the park with their commitment to helping their employees practice wellness everywhere – even at work.

Arbor Assays: A grand slam in workplace wellness

Our first-place winner is Arbor Assays – a small, employee-owned group dedicated to delivering high-quality detection and immunoassay kits. Their business prioritizes employee wellness and supports employees by creating a healthy workplace, including:
  • Quarterly reimbursement for wellness-related expenses, such as races, gym memberships, nutritional supplements, massages and eligible mental health apps or activities.
  • Encouragement to participate in team wellness initiatives, such as muscular sclerosis walks, gardening, Habitat for Humanity builds and other charitable events
  • Healthy lunch options such as salads and fruit offered in the office
Arbor Assays’ dedication to wellness in the workplace and in the community contributes to stronger employee morale, healthier lifestyles and noticeable improvements in physical activity, resulting in increased energy and better mental health.
Congratulations, Arbor Assays!

Our runners-up: The Salvati Insurance Group and Hillsdale County Senior Services Center

Our runners-up have also demonstrated exemplary efforts in promoting wellbeing in the workplace.
The Salvati Insurance Group of Sterling Heights, Michigan slides into second place. The group supports employees’ health objectives, like completing a couch-to-5K community run. In addition, they practice healthy habits by encouraging each other during weekly “tea-time,” a 15-minute Tuesday stress break that reinforces team building and encourages wellness, such as weight loss and tobacco cessation.
In third place is Hillsdale County Senior Services Center of Hillsdale, Michigan. They are recognized for promoting healthy lunch options by offering a stocked salad bar and fresh produce for staff, supporting work-life balance by allowing flexible workdays and encouraging physical health by supplying a fitness center with free employee memberships – making for a wellness-conscious work environment.

Hooray for employee health

Blue Cross is a big fan of wellness everywhere. We applaud all our contest applicants and look forward to their participation in the Blue Cross Small Group Appreciation Month contest again next year.
It’s never too late to encourage wellness in the workplace.
