Recent survey results from the Kaiser Family Foundation show that 90% of consumer assistance programs that helped people sign up for health insurance are being re-contacted by consumers, many who do not understand how to use their health insurance. As the Washington Post pointed out, if Americans don’t understand how health insurance, it can hurt their ability to use their benefits. Whether you’re new to health insurance or you’ve had it in the past, understanding your plan can be tough. We’re here to help. In the coming months, Blue Cross is hosting free interactive sessions across the state to help Michiganders make sense of their health plan coverage. These seminars will cover:
- Basics of coverage, including the costs that make up a health plan
- The difference between PPOs and HMOs
- How to find and choose a doctor and how to prepare for an appointment
- Ways to minimize the amount you have to pay
- Tips for getting the most out of your insurance
For members of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, we will introduce the free tools you have available online to help manage your health care costs and understand your benefits. Blues representatives will be on site will help answer questions. All sessions are open to the public and members of all health plans are encouraged to attend.
