Members Elect 11 to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Board of Directors

DETROIT, May 30, 2018, – Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members elected a slate of 11 individuals to the company’s board of directors on May 24. The elected slate is part of the 35-directors who make up the full board. “Having members elect the board is vital to who we are and how we act as a company,” said Daniel J. Loepp, BCBSM president and CEO. The 11 elected board members and their components are as follows:
  • William Black – Medium and Large Groups Labor
  • Sarah Doyle – Medium and Large Groups Labor
  • Joseph Garcia – At-Large
  • Yousif Ghafari – Medium and Large Groups Management
  • Diane Goddeeris, R.N., B.S.N. – Provider
  • Paula Herbart – Medium and Large Groups Labor
  • Kerry Kaysserian, D.D.S. – Provider

  • Gregory Sudderth – Individual
  • Brad Thompson – Medium and Large Groups Management
Gregory A. Sudderth of Traverse City was re-elected as board chairman, and F. Remington Sprague, M.D., of Muskegon as board vice chairman. Sudderth is president of CIR, Inc. dba Executive Labor–Management Services Inc., a company specializing in addressing the needs of private and public sector employees and their respective local unions. “Greg Sudderth is a leader, innovator and problem solver that understands the demands and complexities of a company the size of Blue Cross,” said Daniel J. Loepp, president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. “His expertise has helped facilitate Blue Cross’ transformation from a single-state jurisdiction carrier into a nationally-recognized carrier.” Sprague is the vice president and chief medical officer of Mercy Health Muskegon. Mercy Health Muskegon, a division of Trinity Health, is a faith-based health care organization committed to delivering high quality, comprehensive, accessible and personalized care. “Dr. Sprague’s deep knowledge of the health care industry and informed perspective contributes tremendous value to our business,” said Loepp. The 2018-2019 Blue Cross board seats 35 directors. Eight seats are filled by medical professionals, six seats are filled by individual subscribers and small groups, and four seats are at-large. A seat is filled by the company’s chief executive officer. The remaining 16 seats are filled by Blues customers from large and medium groups management and labor.
