November is National Family Caregivers Month. The observance highlights individuals who provide unwavering support to those who need it most. Whether it’s a parent, adult child or sibling, caregivers are the unsung heroes of our community. In honor of their efforts, the Area Agency on Aging 1-B (AAA 1-B) is presenting the Caregiver Champions: Caregiver Appreciation and Awards Luncheon. Co-sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the event celebrates local caregivers with a day of fun, pampering and appreciation. Tati Amare of WDIV-Channel 4's Live in The D will host, while A Healthier Michigan Podcast host and former WDIV weatherman Chuck Gaidica will present the keynote address. Guests will be treated to a three-course meal, relaxing massage, multiple giveaways and a professional photo booth. Six caregivers, representing Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Monroe, Livingston and St. Clair counties, will be named Caregiver Champions of the Year and receive a $500 cash prize. “The event and the contest are all about honoring and appreciating family caregivers in our community,” said Kathleen Yanik, communications manager, Area Agency on Aging 1-B. “Family caregivers do so much. They’re often handling the errands, the medical appointments, the meals, the day-to-day care of their loved ones and so much more. It can be a 24/7 commitment, and family caregivers often don’t get the acknowledgement they deserve. We wanted to do something just for them.” The AAA 1-B will also have a resource table where attendees can receive one-on-one advice from a caregiver specialist. The Caregivers Appreciation and Awards Luncheon is open to the public but requires advance registration. Tickets range from $15-$35 and can be purchased here. Ticket sales close on November 10.
